What is an interactive show and how do I do it?
FAQ Categories
The Show
What is Instructions for a Habitat Inventory? It’s an interactive experience that you run through an app on your phone. You select the physical locations used in the show yourself, based on your surroundings.
Wait, it's just me? Possibly. Instructions for a Habitat Inventory is designed to be experienced alone, but you could also play with a friend, both listening together, or each running the experience on your own phone.
How long is the show? Approximately 60 minutes. This depends on the locations you select in your own personal habitat, and how long it takes you to travel between them.
When you say interactive, what exactly do you mean? The show is delivered through an interactive phone app. You will decide which locations to use in the show based on your own habitat. You will also be asked to reflect on your personal history and experiences. Because you are making an inventory for yourself, each audience member’s experience will be different.
Is this good for kids? There’s no particular subject matter in the show that would be inappropriate for kids. If your kid is the type who likes to ask questions about their environment, or perhaps has been struggling with feelings about being stuck at home for the past several months, this might be a good fit. We suggest going through the experience for yourself first to see if this is something that might be of interest to your kiddo!
What if something goes wrong with my phone during the show? Once you have your coupon code and have downloaded the show, you are able to pause, rewind, etc. as necessary. This way if your phone crashes or you get interrupted, all is not lost!
Ticketing
How do I get a ticket? A link to purchase tickets through the Asheville Fringe Festival is coming soon. You will decide when your performance takes place. Once you’ve purchased a ticket, you will receive instructions on how to download the app and access the show.
When are performances? Whenever you decide! Once you have purchased a ticket, you can download and run the experience on your own schedule. The app will be available until the end of January 2021.
How to prepare
I purchased a ticket! What now? You should receive an email with instructions on how to download the app as well as a “coupon code” that will allow you access to the correct files within the app. If you haven’t received this by the date of your ticket, email info@playableartowrks.org to troubleshoot.
Do I have to use a smartphone app? The show is delivered via app, so yes indeed, you will need to use the app. You’ll get instructions on how to download the app and the show once you purchase a ticket.
Do I need my own phone? Yes, you will. Headphones will be useful, too. Over-ear headphones will provide the best listening experience. Make sure your phone is charged!
Do I need to do anything with my phone? We recommend that you install the Playable Artworks app (via the Play Store or App Store) and download the Instructions for a Habitat Inventory tour when you purchase your ticket. You will need a “coupon code” to access the tour.
Where’s the coupon code I need to download the tour? Once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll need to a code to download the tour. We’ll email that to you before the date for which you’ve purchased a ticket.
What should I bring on this journey? Definitely bring your cell phone, and be sure it's charged. A pair of headphones is also useful, if you've got 'em (over-ear headphones are best!). If any part of your habitat is outside, you'll want to dress for the weather, which might mean bringing an umbrella. You’ll also need something to take notes with: paper and pen/pencil, or a place on your phone. Other than that, come as you are.
