Playable Artworks
People. Place. Performance.
Playable Artworks is a Minneapolis-based nonprofit association. We create connections between people and places in order to change participants’ perception of our world and our communities.
We build original immersive and interactive performances that are specific to time and place, and give audience members the kind of freedom and agency they expect when playing a game. We collaborate with artists across disciplines to build experiences grounded in technology and the physical world.
We actively seek to build a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community of artists and audience-participants. We recognize the barriers faced by those who have traditionally been continuously and systematically disadvantaged in the arts. We are committed to implementing anti-racist practices in our work including maintaining transparent and equitable hiring practices, implementing land acknowledgements in rehearsal processes and performances, hiring at least 50% BIPOC artists for on and off-stage roles, and centering anti-racist expectations as part of our on-boarding. We are indebted to the efforts of the Black, Indigenous, and POC artists who developed We See You WAT's Principles for Building Anti-Racist Theatre Systems, and wish to express our gratitude for the time and labor that these artists spent to detail the inequalities of the theatre sector. Our work to live up to these principles continues.
As we work on dismantling those barriers, we invite feedback on our efforts in creating a community that is accessible, safe, and engaging for all.
